@j_amesmarriott@mymartinamis Looking forward to this episode. Some obituaries said Amis would be remembered more for his criticism than his novels. Humbug!

#bookmail I’ve been really looking forward to this. My favourite writer has written a memoir, or “anti-memoir” as he calls it. A lucky find as it’s not out for another month or so.

I wonder how someone could become so radicalised by xenophobia as to throw petrol bombs at a migrant detention centre?

Spending the past year or so kicking around in English and European lit, I had forgotten how exceptional the American voice is at moving about in the epic register without breaking sweat…

@BacklistedPod @JenniferLAllan @MissAdaDoom Great episode. Totally agree with @JenniferLAllan - those yellow-spined SF Masterworks covers are garish - designed it seems to keep SF in its ghetto. P.S. Nova Swing by MJohn Harrison is another zone for Jennifer’s fan theory.
A sharply observed reality beautifully rendered; in Harrison’s lines, editing and elisions he captures the warp and weave of reality. All groundwork for a genuine sense of the unsettling and the uncanny that lingers long after the book is put down. #mjohnharrison@commapress
As with Hurricane Season, Melchor is interested in the factors that motivate violence. Unlike that novel which linked the roots of violence with class, Paradais posits misogyny, toxic masculinity, the lack of morality as engulfing both rich and poor.@FitzcarraldoEds
@BacklistedPod@Patreon I saw Stalker first and was blown away. The book was a bit of a disappointment compared to Tarkovsky’s vision. (Mind you, M John Harrison’s rewriting of it as Nova Swing was amazing.)
