Chidambaram asks: “Why have a BRICS Summit in India? I don’t see the benefit.”

This from a former Finance Minister!!! How did a former Finance Minister manage to miss $400 billion in trade, rising investment flows and $10 billion+ in development financing?

Perhaps Congress’s permanent “Naraz Fufa” should look at what BRICS has actually delivered before sulking because India is hosting world leaders.

Through the BRICS-created New Development Bank, India has secured financing for metros, highways, bridges, drinking water, affordable housing, renewable energy and infrastructure across multiple states. Mumbai Metro, Indore Metro, Assam bridges, Bihar and Gujarat roads, Manipur water supply - these are not abstract communiqués. They are physical assets in India.

In 2026 alone, NDB has approved Indian projects in Lucknow Metro, affordable housing, education infrastructure and clean energy.

BRICS also gives India something even more valuable: options.

Options to settle more trade in local currencies rather than routing everything through the dollar. India already has rupee-based arrangements with partners including the UAE and Indonesia, while New Delhi is now pushing cheaper, faster cross-border payment connectivity using digital-currency and payment infrastructure.

And then there is geopolitics.

India can sit in the QUAD with America, Australia and Japan, while simultaneously sitting in BRICS with Russia, China, Brazil and the Global South.

But clearly Chidambaram and his clown prince Rahul Gandhi are having a meltdown...
