A friend recently got divorced, super proud of her.

Most people stay stuck. In Indian society, divorce is considered a failure, not of the relationship, but of the people who couldn't make it work.

Everyone is expected to stay happily married forever.

And it's so strange that you're expected to get this 'big decision' right without ever dating or living with a person. In reality, people discover themselves and their priorities through failed relationships.

Also, people change over a lifetime, sometimes in completely opposite directions. That's natural.

But most don't have the courage to acknowledge this. So they suffocate and compromise and pretend everything is perfect when in reality more than half of the marriages are falling apart.

And if no one is getting divorced, then the ones who dare to do it must have done something terribly wrong. It's almost a sin.

A NEW MODEL: Flip the game, normalise divorce to the point where it's considered the DEFAULT OUTCOME. Celebrate the ones who make it with one partner the way you'd celebrate a lottery win. Rare and remarkable.
