TN govt is revising its Schedule of Rates (SoR) for construction materials & labour ahead of major infrastructure tenders, aiming to cut project costs by aligning govt-approved rates with prevailing market prices.

PWD’s expert committee is reviewing rates of cement, steel, blue metal, PVC products, labour and other key inputs.

While SOR is revised every year, officials said it wasn’t scientifically verified with market value and mostly, officials repeatedly the previous year’s SOR with blindly adding “extra”.

The revision could bring uniformity and savings across departments and urban local bodies.

Contractors said steel prices were Rs 55 per kg in Pwd’s SoR but Chennai Corporation’s SoR showed Rs 90 per kg with project costs largely getting inflated.

Contractors want both inflated and underestimated rates corrected, saying some roadwork inputs cost up to 35% more than prescribed SoR rates.

H.E. President Dr @edmnangagwa today welcomed a delegation from the Government of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, at State House.

Delegation leader Engineer B.S. Nath explained that the visit focused on exploring investment opportunities in Zimbabwe’s aviation sector and advancing digital transformation. He noted that similar government‑to‑government projects have succeeded elsewhere and expressed confidence Zimbabwe could benefit in the same way.

The proposed partnership aims to modernise aviation infrastructure, improve efficiency and harness digital technologies to enhance service delivery. It is also expected to deepen Zimbabwe–UAE relations, strengthen border security, boost tourism, attract investment and create jobs for young people, while supporting the country’s wider economic development agenda.
