Process stories (phone call vs. no call, 26th vs. 27th man) just chew up air time until the games arrive. Interesting discussion pieces, but it’s all about whether this group is ready for Paraguay on June 12. #USMNT
Vancouver is in a complex situation, but it feels a bit foreboding that the Athletic’s reporting noted the likelihood of charging a relocation fee. That’s a nine-figure sum MLS I/Os aren’t getting if the Whitecaps stay. Creates a pretty messy set of incentives. #MLS
Matt’s awesome. His stuff is must-read in an era where we get bombarded with slop. Just ask the number of people around the league who read it. Glad to see he’s taking a chance on himself.
Fifteen years ago, I got my dream job writing for MLSsoccer. Last week, that came to an end.
I'm off on my own, and it's time to build something new – with a little help from all of you.

Selling your best striker at a discount for fear of relegation is a tough public sell for a relegation-threatened team. Not persuasive. Bottom line is Toronto FC is probably looking at $20m+ to get the deal done — and even then it’s really down to vibes.
There is a relegation release clause in Josh Sargent’s contract, per sources. Heavy discount on current offer if Norwich were to get relegated.
Norwich currently in relegation zone. 1 point below the line but have played 2 more games than Portsmouth, who are in 21st.
Wonder why relegation-threatened Norwich is unamused by Josh Sargent right now. Suspect Norwich might be more amenable to facilitating a return home if there wasn’t a $10m delta in the valuations. (From The Athletic below)
Other MLS technical staffs will be bombarding the league office asking for an explanation of how the numbers could possibly justify a TAM deal given salary, bonus, and fee. Especially after the De Paul signing.
🇦🇷 BREAKING: Inter Miami is nearing a deal to sign winger Tadeo Allende on a permanent deal from Celta Vigo, sources say.
Allende won’t be a DP as deal currently planned.

NEW: Following our @guardian investigation, Major League Soccer is reopening its own investigation into Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner.
The club says Tanner has since been placed on leave.

Inter Miami should have called MLS on Monday, explained the situation, and then offered the fig leaf of a minor injury to try and wriggle out of it. Might have worked, might not have worked. The no-call, no-show situation really didn’t leave MLS with much choice here.

#NERevs learned from the mistakes of last offseason and leaned into flexibility. Seven figures in budget room, four international slots and two U22 slots available heading into the offseason — and pretty acute needs in central defense and number nine. #MLS
"I'm always hearing, ‘the young ones are not ready to play.’ And I tell you, I don't know if they are ready to play because we didn't try. So you would rather try to be sure."
