I crossed the finish line with daylight still on the horizon. I thought I was incapable of that. Here’s proof that I was wrong. #WS100#seeyouinsquaw@wser
@runcandice@runcandice I have 10.3 acres outside Beaver Lakes, I camp and run there a lot, super good dirt roads for running. I’ll separately DM you a Strava file…
@UltraRunnerPod@wser There was—it was one of the most competitive, hotly contested, and all-around best men’s ultra races ever. The elite men showed up and threw down, making me believe that the M field is also continually growing deeper and more competitive. But the W field is advancing faster. 💪🏻
The #WS100 women’s field keeps getting faster and deeper. In only 3 previous years did the top 10 all break 20 hours (‘12, ‘21, ‘22). Never before did 10th place break 19:30. This year 10th place ran 18:11 !!! 👏🏻👏🏻
A massive leap forward for elite women’s ultra running.
@wser
@HenryHoward@AdamKimble818@wser@aidstationfireb@sharmanian And now Taylor Nowlin and Leah Yingling both have two, as well. So if they all return next year, there will be 4 streakers in the women’s race and one in the men’s race. Sorry for the confusion—thanks @HenryHoward for helping clarify!
Kudos to all of the top ten.
@AdamKimble818@wser@aidstationfireb@sharmanian Yeah, it’s surprising! Given how well the top ten performed this year (women and men, but especially women), I won’t be surprised if we see a lot of them in the top ten next year. 💯 #seeyouatstates
This is the greatest run ever in ultra trail running. @courtdauwalter has changed our understanding of what is possible in ultra running.
Courtney, thank you so much for giving us this inspiring performance. I’m grateful. 🙏🏻

Courtney Dauwalter (Salomon) wins the 2023 Western States 100 in a course record time of 15:29:34.
This resets the 2012 course record of Ellie Greenwood in 16:47:19. #WS100

Courtney 15 minutes faster than my 2019 split to Foresthill. I finished 15:56, but ran the race of a lifetime the last 39 miles. She’s on pace to shatter the CR. Sub-16 is possible, but will require unprecedented closing speed in the women’s race. Go Courtney!!! #WS100
Great piece. Really resonates for me as a parent, pro athlete, and former child athlete. Pressure as a kid hindered my progress in sports and in school. I became a better runner and student later in life when I built my relationships with running and academics on my own terms.
How do you help your child become a champion? Chill out!
Here are 9 lessons that I wish every parent knew when it came to supporting their child’s athletic and academic pursuits:

Excellent piece about a good friend with an incredible story—life & death, #ultrarunning, lawyer career, community, and prioritizing what really matters. @trailrunnermag
Keep crushing, Wookie 🤙🏻 @ironwookster
(I gave quotes for this piece 🙂)

I’ve never tried it and probably never will, but I’d call 48hrs the hardest of all ultra events for elites. It’s “short” enough that you need to legit run and slam calories in ways that can cause awful nausea, and avoid sleep…but just barely. And that much repetitive motion? 😱
