@apoxon There will never be a convention of any sort that goes without issues. It's a matter of if the issues are manageable, and how they're handled. VF has spent a lot of time and energy building our relationships with the hotels we've been with. Great attendees make that job easier:)
@apoxon Debrief with sales manager went very well. Both sides regretted we couldn't come to an agreement that would work for each of us for the following year.
But yes, the hotel was getting complaints from a single tenant in the building next door about the dance.
Can't please everyone.
@MilesTheMeerkat Oh, and I'll request:
hmm I'm torn between
1) Baking cookies for deers, or
2) Being smooshed under a big stud tiger for a pose.
In the interest of fun for everybody, I'll go with #2=)
@JupiterBruzer I agree though, and so does every single person, past and present on the board. We all want to find ways to increase transparency. Message them, or reach out to Ace the community rep, he'll bring them forward for you! I guarantee it's discussed at a meeting if you bring it.
@JupiterBruzer One of the big challenges is that nobody cares about the boring stuff, the documents, the date setting, the hum-drum stuff. And that is about 90% of what the board deals with at meetings. It's only when things explode that people want more insight.
@ktdrg @SunsetSilvally @JupiterBruzer Not at all, we were never shy about sharing the financials. I was merely stating that they don't hide it and that there are laws to ensure they don't.
A couple reasons, a big one is hotel negotiations. You don't want to tip your hand completely.
@JupiterBruzer @SunsetSilvally Not to be nit-picking, but not-for-profit is different than non-profit. They still are required to pay taxes and a bunch of other details about how they are allowed to spend the money that comes in.
BCAEA is not-for-profit.
@SunsetSilvally @JupiterBruzer Again, the financials are available at the annual general meeting every VancouFur. It isn't a secret. In fact, it's governed by the BC Societies act that they share those with the membership annually.
@JupiterBruzer @SunsetSilvally They're not "strapped for cash". The point was that Scrooge McDuck isn't counting piles of gold at the end of it. To dispel the idea that conventions are working with large sums of money. They're not.
The financials are available at the annual general meeting every VancouFur.
@mediarz I was sad when you retired. I loved working with you doggo.
I know, in the end, things will turn out okay. But these moments in time are tough for everybody. Especially when there is so much work for all the conventions to do to recover from Covid.
@daztoons I can tell you that the board has dealt with a number of complaints of that nature and has acted on each one they've received. It's regrettable that sometimes in the interest of confidentiality which they're held to they can't tell you the outcome of those things.
It's tough to want to be involved in convention staffing. My Final Thoughts regarding
@BCAnthroEvents@VancouFUR@VanhooverPE
To those who've worked tirelessly past, present, and future for any conventions, Thank you for everything you've given.
