@jdk653 @Mikeashworth12 @BeautyOfTranspt The gates are permanently closed now. During their previous time in Liverpool they were responsible for two deaths, the first was clearly the responsibility of Pooly's foreman for not repairing the gates following a previous accident. The second death was 50 years later.
@thedustyteapot@ORailways@angiesliverpool The Sailors Home Charity rented out what unused areas they could to raise revenue to keep the building going in the 50s and 60s.
@thedustyteapot@ORailways@angiesliverpool There are credible reports that part of the building on the Paradise Street side was used as temporary police cells to hold female prisoners. The ground floor was converted for storage and packing nuts (and possibly coffee).
@ORailways@thedustyteapot@angiesliverpool Unfortunately it was the new fire regulations following a number of deadly fires as well as next to no borders which lead to the closure. By 1969, following many alterations, this wasn't the magnificent building it had been in the 1860s.
Wonderful location, great crew - Even more dramatic in the snow! Great to see the UK film industry starting to reopen with the hard work of so many freelancers who have had such a difficult 2020.
