At the top, Lac Ontario identified on a map from 1688.
On the bottom, the announcement in February 1867 that the new province would take its name from Lake Ontario.
The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.
@TrueFactsStated Albertan here…most of us don’t believe in/support the separation nonsense. It hurts when people call us “Texas of the North” - we get why it might appear that way to outsiders but like the US we have a leader who has decided to try and dismantle all the good that once was here.
@andrew_leach Depending on where you are, even within a city, you pay more or less (airport/high traffic/tourist locations) - Starbucks utilizes “Demographic Pricing” which allows them to charge more than base price for menu items if they have higher than average leasing costs to cover.
@hockeymongler @Fan960Wills @NHLFlames@Sportsnet@Sportsnet960 In addition to this being used for stride and crossover training where you are made aware of speed and power gained with timed technique, it’s also a conditioning exercise for cardio as this song works at 117bpm which is where you want to target for building cardio endurance.
@TheBreakdownAB It makes me sick that I’m living in his riding! He refuses to address/talk to anyone who lives in his riding that want his stance on separation. He is a completely absent MLA that only shows his face here if he has other UCP members with him as a shield. This rotten lot has to go
@jsbmbaggedmilk@OilersNation In 1983, when I was 9, my Dad took me to my first Oilers game. Sat in the “reds”, Section C, at Northlands Coliseum and that was that - Oilers fan for life. I am lucky to have seen the best of times for this team & still trying to hold on to the hope there’s more of that to come.
@integritycdn Just had 2nd shot couple weeks ago and luckily, I had very mild symptoms with both shots. Only felt “off” for a few days/arm soreness with 1st and just tired/off/sore for few days with the 2nd. The covid vaxes were horrific for me so the Shingles not being so bad was a relief.
@TheBreakdownAB PowerSchool would not show this, it’s not how that system works. Announcements come as emails directly from the school district to the parents. Any time you log into PowerSchool it will show the schedule for the week - even throughout the strike it showed the week schedule.
@JoJoFromJerz@atrupar This is the passive aggressive game Canadians play - this is not kissing Trump’s ass, he’s calling him “transformative” not as a compliment to him but to throw shade at the fact that everyone is moving on from the US because of him.
@TheBreakdownAB My grade 11 had his social teacher last week go through what the gov’t was offering for social 20 and it’s what they already did in social 10 so it’s not in line with the actual curriculum. And the gov’t had this ready to go mid last week, govt had no intention to negotiate.
@AntiToxicPeople So sorry for your loss. It is a heartbreak that is really indescribable, as we develop such deep and loving bonds with our pets, and it’s so hard to let that go. The hardest I have ever cried was when I had to say goodbye to my cat. Just know that she will always be with you.
@drdagly@slav_metalurges My Grandfather had Parkinson’s and he lost his swallow reflex. It didn’t seem that common or, it wasn’t overly discussed 25yrs ago, as one of the symptoms that happens with some patients. It was heartbreaking watching him waste away. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
@JackieBee_16 FLA played an amazing defensive game for sure, just meant that they didn’t play a lights out game that we couldn’t respond to given the depth we have on our team - we just seem not bothered to try and respond, it’s baffling.
@JackieBee_16 I don’t understand these guys not even showing up for a home game in a game 5 tied series…and it’s not like FLA is playing incredible out there, they just seem to want it more. This team breaks my heart more times than not.
There is literally 1 team on the face of this planet that will take you on the craziest roller coaster of a game you’ve witnessed. It’s the Edmonton Oilers. We’re only 2 periods in and I’ve felt every emotion humanly possible. Also, the refs are terrible.
