I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Alistair Darling. My heart goes out to his family, particularly Maggie, Calum and Anna, whom he loved so dearly.
Delighted to see Peter Kyle announcing proposals called for by @Labourlongterm, @InstituteGC, and other Labour voices on AI today!

For the UK to unlock the benefits of AI, it is vital that we put in place clear, comprehensive regulation that addresses the full range of AI challenges - from bias and workers' rights to frontier AI safety.
The #LabourParty is the only party with a credible plan to deliver this
Most of the people who’ve led AI innovation recognise the need for legal safeguards to ensure future development is done safely and for the interests of everyone.
Unlike our govt, our key global partners have already acted - and so will @UKLabour 👇

Fascinating session on Artificial Intelligence with @Labourlongterm. According to @MattRodda the “blistering pace of AI innovation is moving much faster than the government is”

❗ September’s searing heatwave served as a powerful reminder of how fast climate change is moving. Immediate and deep emission cuts are essential. But we must also prepare better for inevitable impacts.
The first global temperature data is in for the full month of September. This month was, in my professional opinion as a climate scientist – absolutely gobsmackingly bananas. JRA-55 beat the prior monthly record by over 0.5C, and was around 1.8C warmer than preindutrial levels.
🌍 We urgently need better policy plans to adapt to climate change at home and abroad, to strengthen food and water security in the face of disasters and droughts, and to respond to climate tipping points and emergencies.
Wondering what the new Shadow Minister for AI has to say on Labour’s AI policy? Join our Labour Party Conference event with @MattRodda MP!
Tuesday 10th October 11-12pm
Leonardo's Liverpool Hotel, Meeting Room 1.

Our panel includes:
@JamesBaker__ Director and Head of Tech Policy at Labour for the Long Term, Researcher at Harvard Law School
@MattRodda: Labour MP for Reading East and Shadow Minister for AI
@Caseycalista: Chair of Labour Digital and Tech Lead at H&K Strategies
The opportunities of AI are vast, but the technology also presents huge challenges - to jobs, workers’ rights, security and even existential safety.
Our expert panel will consider how Labour can walk the AI tightrope between risk and opportunity
But yesterday’s announcement made it crystal clear: it is now only a @UKLabour government that can be trusted to deliver on net zero, while creating jobs, cutting bills and delivering energy security.
