Place, identity, history and culture matter. Being part of Greater Manchester doesn’t have to mean losing the rich heritage of our towns. Looking forward to launching #GMTownOfCulture with @AndyBurnhamGM today
@LabourTowns@UKLabour This is a fantastic initiative @UKLabour. Would be great for Blackpool & far outstrips the Tory proposals which are derisory substitutes for the £700 m + funding taken away by Tory Govts since 2010 & EU funding which we wil lose under Johnson’s Brexit.
Very happy to see #townofculture in our radical manifesto. Culture isn’t just nice to have, it’s a vital contributor to our wellbeing, pride and sense of belonging. #VoteLabourDecember12@LabourTowns
A year ago @LabourTowns proposed an investment plan for our towns and a Town of Culture award to celebrate our heritage and communities - now they are in @UKLabour manifesto #OnYourSide#LabourManifesto19
Great to see @UKLabour commit to a Town of Culture after our campaign🎉🎉🎉
Labours Towns offer also includes:
👍1bn Cultural Capital Fund for towns to transform libraries, museums & galleries
👍Fairer distribution of National Lottery funding so communities get a fair share
@IanCLucas@WRX_Labour Really sorry to hear this. Your passion for Wrexham was always genuine and deeply enthusiastic in all our @LabourTowns meetings. They were lucky to have had such a fantastic MP and whenever the GE comes you can step to one side knowing you’ve given your all.
I welcome this - the @LabourTowns group met with lottery to press for greater transparency on ticket sales to ensure that the lottery didn’t distribute funds unevenly -Labour promises National Lottery shake-up with more cash to biggest sales areas https://t.co/mXxO40ooLm
We sometimes hear the view that deprivation is primarily a city issue. This blows that argument apart. Many of our towns, especially coastal towns, are the most deprived in the country. Without fairer investment and real political power this will continue. Things must change
Packed out fringe at #Lab19 about devolving economic power to our towns, tapping into a vote that all parties have neglected for 40yrs - arguably a catalyst of Brexit! Great contributions from @lisanandy@JimfromOldham@MayorJd4
A third of all UK bank branches closed in the past five years according to @whichmoney with rural areas worst hit. Interesting news on the day @Labourtowns published a “Fair deal for our towns”. https://t.co/9ACE63FZEO
.@TanDhesi “our towns are the hardest hit by austerity we have higher levels of children who are malnourished and in poverty. That’s why Towns need to be the heart of Labour’s manifesto”
