4/End: Key future directions for NSSI by proxy: identifying links to and similaries or differences (e.g., behavior functions) between this and other NSSI behaviors & incorporating the role of the proxy into treatment. Stay tuned for more work on this in the future!
New article led by Adam Mann on NSSI by proxy (behaviors that while self-directed are other-inflicted). This is a unique, clinically relevant form of NSSI that is not explicit in our current NSSI definitions. Free link - https://t.co/DFKV92YdMG - and a quick preview 🧵:
3/X: 4 by proxy behaviors are: initiating injury via 1) tattooing or body piercing; 2) an animal; 3) sexual activity w/ a partner; & 4) instigating a physical fight. Initiating injury via sports or by engaging in elective/ cosmetic medical procedures may also meet the definition.
