Want to know how to boost the economy or decrease interest rates?Just out today: Real GDP increased at an annual rate of 3.0 percent in Q2, reversing Q1’s 0.5 percent decrease. This is the 1st of 3 announcements and is the preliminary estimate which will be followed by the estimate and then the final estimate. This is not the actual GDP (5.0) but the number after subtracting inflation (1.9)
The increase in real Q2 GDP reflected a 35 percent decrease in imports due to tariffs, which are a subtraction in the calculation of GDP, and an increase in consumer spending.
GDP is calculated with this formula:
GDP = Consumer spending + Investment + Government spending + (Exports-Imports).
So to boost the economy, cut sales and income taxes to increase consumer spending, increase government spending and increase imports. Reverse for slowing the economy which leads to lower interest rates.
