Executive Mayor orders reconnection of Basic Education Department while vowing further action to recover school debt.
Today’s disconnection was born out of frustration and desperation following the continued escalation of unpaid municipal debt owed by public schools within Tshwane.
@CityTshwane
The Border Management Authority (BMA) says it processed 8,230 repatriated foreign nationals through the Beitbridge Port of Entry between 12 and 24 June 2026, including 6,709 Malawian nationals and 1,521 Zimbabwean nationals.
The BMA said all repatriations are conducted in the presence of embassy officials to verify identities and travel documents.
On Thursday morning, 17 buses arrived without the required Emergency Travel Certificates (ETCs) and were redirected to the Musina truck stop until the necessary documentation was obtained.
The authority also found that several buses lacked valid cross-border permits, while some drivers were not carrying passports, preventing them from crossing the border.
The BMA has urged transport operators and foreign nationals to ensure all immigration requirements, documentation and security clearances are completed before arriving at the port of entry to avoid delays and ensure the lawful, safe and orderly repatriation process.

We call on City of Tshwane to restore electricity and water services at the DBE head offices or face legal action.
I can confirm that the national Department of Basic Education’s account with the City of Tshwane is not owing a single cent.
There was no legal basis for the disconnection!
The DBE does not run schools. This is the function of the provinces. The City knew that this was not our debt. But disconnected us anyway. This has financial implications for the Department when it should be spending all its resources on our learners and the education system.
