I think it started with the 1960s counter culture/rebellion originally. The radical 1960s New Left didn't die out. They became educated and taught their ideology in our schools and then they had children. That ideology grew and bled into general progressive spaces along with removing the glue that held us together like the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer in schools. Instead of teaching our children to be proud Americans, they were taught to be offended at their own success. Now enter in Islam and organizations like George Soros and add money, lots of money to that. There's more, much more to add here. We could talk for hours and still have more to add.
