@PaulFox13 Golden Tempo's winning time was 2:03.49 and the race is now 1-1/4 miles. When Secretariat won the Belmont his time for the first 1-1/4 mile was 1:59 and he still had a 1/4 mile to go. His 1:59 was faster than his time when he won the Kentucky Derby.

@MustangMan_TX I remember it because I just got my first company car and I had one for the next 43 years. I always had a sports car in the garage for the weekends. I think this one was my favorite.
Bob Gibson started 34 games in 1968 and pitched a combined 304.2 innings. There are 306 total innings in 34 games, assuming both take the field for 9 innings. If he would have pitched 4 more outs it would have been a "complete season." He threw 28 CG with 13 shutouts. Maybe his most impressive stat of that season was he only gave up 38 earned runs in 304.2 innings pitched. He had more shutouts (13) than home runs and triples allowed, a combination of 11.

@ronsterd89 Mrs. Thorpe was in charge of our cafeteria and the food was great. Her husband was my athletic bus driver and he was the brother of Jim Thorpe.

@ThatEricAlper A few years ago I drove out to Simi Valley, California to go to the Reagan Presidential Library and I checked into my hotel there and I told the man at the desk why I was there and he told me his elementary class went there but he does not remember anything about it.
Johnny Keane after being asked why he left Bob Gibson in to pitch the ninth inning of the 7th game against the Yankees on 2 days rest and Gibson tiring. "I had a commitment to is heart." He only received 84% of the vote, 70 players have received a higher percentage than him. Please explain that. Out of 401 ballots 64 people did not vote for him.
