Crowds Storm Tafo Palace as Two Men Are Publicly Paraded, Punished and Banished Over Homosexuality Allegations
Kumasi, Ashanti Region — 1 October 2026: New videos emerging from Tafo in Kumasi show tens of people gathered at the Tafo Palace following the public parading, punishment and reported banishment of two men accused of engaging in same-sex sexual activity.
The videos show a large crowd gathered at the palace after the two men were reportedly paraded through principal streets of Tafo while carrying sheep as part of traditional rituals following allegations of homosexuality.
According to information received by Rightify Ghana and videos reviewed by the organisation, the two men - reportedly a driver and a fast-food vendor - were accused of engaging in same-sex sexual activity. The allegations were subsequently brought before the Tafo Traditional Authority, headed by the Tafohene.
The traditional authorities reportedly initially ordered the men to provide eight sheep each for rituals and cleansing. Following appeals, the reported punishment was reduced to four sheep each.
The men were subsequently publicly paraded through parts of Tafo while carrying sheep before returning to the palace, where rituals were reportedly conducted. They were also reportedly humiliated, fined and banished from the community.
The large crowd that gathered at the palace following the procession highlights the heightened public attention surrounding the incident and raises concerns about the safety and privacy of the two men, as well as other people who may be perceived to be LGBTQI+ in Tafo.
The Tafo Traditional Authority has also reportedly announced a ban on LGBTQI+ activities in the community following the allegations.
The incident raises serious concerns about public humiliation, forced outing, discrimination, collective punishment, stigma and the potential for further violence or targeted attacks against people accused or perceived to be LGBTQI+.
Rightify Ghana is continuing to monitor developments on the ground and urges queer people and others who may be at risk in Tafo to remain vigilant, prioritise their safety, avoid confrontations and take steps to protect their identities, locations and movements.
The organisation is also concerned that the public nature of the proceedings and the large crowds involved could increase the risk of further targeting, harassment or violence against LGBTQI+ people in the community.
Queer Ghanaians Help Fight Church Fire, Urge President John Mahama and Parliament to Fund Fire Service Instead of Anti-LGBTQ Bill Focus
Queer people in Accra are urging President John Dramani Mahama and the Parliament of Ghana to stop spending time and resources on the anti-LGBTQ bill and instead invest in equipping the Ghana National Fire Service with adequate firefighting equipment and infrastructure.
The call follows a fire outbreak at Jesus House Chapel International in Dansoman, along the Aliu Mahama street, Accra, where, according to Hajia Akita and Hajia Rose, fire tenders arrived without sufficient water, forcing people to resort to nearby school facilities and gutters to obtain water to help extinguish the flames.
They argue that the ongoing parliamentary discussions on the anti-LGBTQ bill will not address Ghana’s pressing developmental challenges or solve urgent problems such as inadequate emergency response infrastructure needed to protect lives and property.
Their intervention highlights the importance of prioritising public safety, emergency preparedness and essential services over legislation targeting LGBTQ+ people.

The Makeup On Men Trend is more than a cute picture/video our algorithm recommends to us. It is a reminder that makeup is form of art and a reoccurrence of a previous fashion trend for men.
