Umar Mahmood @faith_tweeting informs the audience of our conference next week Saturday28 November 6pm! We will be hearing from an amazing line up including @FloEshalomi, @IrfanMohammed_, Humaira Saleem, @LambethMPS Commander Colin Wingrove and @CPSMuslimNet Chair Hauwa Shehu!
are more out of touch with the communities. The Muslim community has always been more in the community than the upper class. Stand Up To Racism is here to support and show solidarity with communities who are facing racism. We do this at a local and national level.
Naima Omar, of @SLSUTR, says policies are creating exclusion and language against different groups such as refugees and migrants is feeding into #Islamophobia. Many Muslim groups have been at the forefront of #COVID19 pandemic. When we talk about integration, the upper class
Imam Suliman Ghani says the attacks on Muslims have been coming since the time of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Islam is a practical religion so they will find points to attack on food, your beard, your clothes etc. #Islamophobia is on the rise so who do people go to? The mosques.
The mosques play a pivotal role in making people secure. We have to stand up to Islamophobia. #PREVENT is a serious issue and there is an impact on the Muslim community. We have to be empowered and cannot stay marginalised. The mosques and imams make a big difference.
We need to get involved in local activities that will impact us. Lambeth is the most diverse borough but took until 2018 to have the first Somali and Eritrean councillors.
@DrNBYP says that he felt the shift in animosity against Muslims personally in and around London with his family. Despite attacks against Muslims, such as the #ChristchurchMosqueAttack#Islamophobia rose. We also need to understand our responsibility in terms of structures.
We need to hold people to account. We need to understand what party has what policy that will affect our communities. We have to get seats at the table where decisions are being made. Hashi says language is important as you don't hear about Christian or Sikh attackers.
If groups like the Muslims feel they are being taken for granted, they will stop voting for us, like they did in #Scotland. Muslims need proper representation and the leadership have said they will look into the report by the Labour Muslim Network. #IslamophobiaAwarenessMonth
@BellRibeiroAddy says that fascist parties are on the rise, far right extremism is gripping our politics. Islam is a religion of peace. A lot of legislation is taking away liberties of Muslim communities. The Labour Party has to bust the myths around the religion.
Bell says she was disappointed by the @LabourMuslims report on #Islamophobia. The Labour Party has to make clear it will take on board the recommendations. Muslims are a large part of consistently reliable votes. We must take this seriously. Very loyal groups have left Labour.
We have to tackle the politics of fear which is apparent in the current government and also took place during the mayoral election. A comprehensive strategy is needed to tackle Islamophobia including primary legislation by British government. @IslamophobiaAM
Aman Ali says there is a structural #Islamophobia which is both covert and overt. There are 4 categories of penalties which Muslim communities are hit with: 1. Women 2. BAME 3. Muslim 4. Visibly Muslim. These penalties hit the Muslim community in media, employment and insurance.
