Cutting - preserves cell structure (intense and sharp heat)
Mortar and pestle - crushes cells to release essential oils and utilizes the presence of biofilm for depth.
Every time you taste vanilla, you’re enjoying one of the most stressful crops to produce on Earth.
This sweet, calm flavor hides a crazy truth — without human effort, most vanilla would never exist at all. Behind that simple taste is a story of precision, timing, and near-impossible farming.
Very interesting facts about vanilla :-
• Vanilla comes from the plant Vanilla planifolia, which is actually a type of orchid — and the only orchid grown for food 😳
• Each vanilla flower blooms for just ONE day… if it’s not pollinated that day, it dies and produces nothing 🤯
• In most parts of the world, farmers must pollinate each flower by hand using a tiny stick or toothpick — one by one 😭
• This method was discovered by a 12-year-old boy named Edmond Albius — and it’s still used today
• A single farmer may need to pollinate thousands of flowers manually during the season
• After pollination, it takes about 9 months for the vanilla pod to grow
• But that’s not all — the pods then go through a curing process that can take several more months before becoming the vanilla we know
• Fresh vanilla pods have no strong smell — the famous aroma develops only after curing 😳
• Vanilla is one of the most expensive spices in the world, second only to saffron
• The crop is so valuable that in some countries, farmers guard their vanilla farms like gold
• Vanilla vines can grow over 10 meters long, climbing on trees like a creeper
• The plant originally relied on a specific type of bee for pollination, which exists naturally only in parts of Mexico
• Without human help, vanilla farming in most countries would completely fail
• The flavor of vanilla comes from a compound called vanillin, which forms during the curing process
• Because of how hard it is to produce, much of the “vanilla flavor” in products today is actually artificially made 😭
Happy Friday my people 🎊🎊
