In 1977, Jorge Luis Borges, one of the most influential 20th c. Spanish-language writers, told William F. Buckley (whose first language was Spanish) his reasons for feeling, age 78, that English was 'far finer' than his native tongue. Right or wrong, I love his savor for language
You all know I'm Joel's biggest fan, but I don't love any scenario that explains this. if he was trolling, that is annoying bc he should be taking this seriously. if he wasn't trolling then yikes.
I finally got to fixing that stupid fucking meme to reflect what people should *actually* feel
As a leftist, I hold all the same basic positions I did a decade ago, which remain left-wing
My values didn't change. It just turned out a lot of people valued hate more than leftism
I love this for him. They can't learn from the Russian Revolution, or French Revolution, or even MAGA. One day you're Robespierre calling for their heads off, the next day it's your head they're interested in. That's what happens when you unleash spiraling extremism.
Welcome to the party, Zohran. You earned it.

Between 2014 and 2018, the 25 richest Americans paid an effective tax rate of 3.4%. The loophole strategy even has a name. It’s call Buy, borrow and die.
@justsettledownn@captgouda24@OrbFromOnline You clearly are unaware that the uber-rich have a loophole they use to not pay taxes on most of their income, which comes in the form of stock. They never sell stock and instead borrow with the stock as collateral. They never pay taxes on that income and neither do their heirs.
@captgouda24@OrbFromOnline Are you being facetious? Do you think founders of tech companies pay high rates in taxes? The effective tax rates for guys like Musk, Brin, Bezos, and Gates is under 5%. If you think that government coffers are going to overflow if AI is successful, you are sadly mistaken.
That towel move is a real physical therapy technique called a self SNAG, and the speed of the relief tells you something most people never learn about their own neck. Muscle tissue takes weeks of loading to actually lengthen. So when stiffness vanishes in a few seconds, the muscle was never what changed.
What changed is the signal your brain was sending to it.
The small facet joints stacked down the back of your neck sit at roughly a 45 degree angle. When one of them gets irritated or stops gliding smoothly, your brain protects it by clamping down the surrounding muscles. That clamp is the stiffness you feel. The tissue underneath is usually fine, it's just being held under orders.
The towel edge hooks under one vertebra. When you pull forward and up along that 45 degree joint plane while turning your head, you glide the joint through the exact motion it was refusing, with support the whole way. Your brain gets live evidence the movement is safe and drops the clamp. Physical therapists do the same glide with their thumbs and call it a SNAG, short for sustained natural apophyseal glide. Brian Mulligan, the New Zealand physio who developed the method in the 1980s, designed the towel version specifically so patients could run it on themselves at home.
Which is why years of stretching can lose to thirty seconds with a towel. A stretch tries to overpower the brain's grip. A glide convinces it to let go.
Russia's five-hospital quarantine, FSB involvement, and reported hazmat use in response to the death of a single researcher at a weapons-lineage Irkutsk lab are inconsistent with a lab-acquired plague infection, which would have been treated with prophylactic antibiotics.

The transitions between each section are incredibly smooth. It’s so good that I got completely absorbed in this arrangement and almost forgot about the original soundtrack.
@EinatWilf This Foreign Affairs poll is complete bullshit. Only about 20% of Israelis and Palestinians think a 2 state solution is even possible. While the majority of Israelis used to believe in a 2 state solution until 10/7, Pals only accepted it as an interim step to destroying Israel.
The fact is, when I have seen false accusations of rape or abuse in modern America, the woman doing it was definitely some sort of Cluster B adjacent. She was the type of person who was ALWAYS the victim for EVERYTHING and would have years of history of never holding a real job, drugs, and/or various crimes like identity theft, assault, and involuntary psych holds.
I don't actually know of any false accusations that didn't follow that pattern. Just like there is a bottom fifth of men that just can't keep out of trouble, there is also a bottom fifth of women, and they behave in predictable ways, if you know how to spot it.
So when someone tells me they were falsely accused of rape, and the alleged false accuser is a well adjusted straight A student with zero drug issues and a load of positive friendships, I'm like lol, sure buddy. You might be right but I sincerely doubt it.
A passenger on the Dubai–Tel Aviv flight recounts:
“We are currently in Saudi Arabia.
One of the crew members attacked the pilot with a knife and disabled the aircraft’s systems. Yaniv (pictured?) and another passenger stormed the cockpit and subdued the attacker.
Luckily, there were two more pilots on board. They were the ones who managed to land the plane.”
Well, yes. Overall, the probability that a plane full of Israelis will contain a trained assault team, two additional pilots, and, statistically, at least one cardiac surgeon, psychologist, lawyer, and diamond dealer is substantially higher than 50%.
