A coworker at a previous school also resigned at the end of the school year when the principal directed her to change a student's failing grade of 38 to 50 so that the student could enter the "Credit Recovery" program. (Student did very little work!)

@jcbowman This hits hard today. It feels like the shortest summer break ever! I'm beginning my annual back-to-school in-service today (we have 10 of them, I attended one in June). But, we do get one of them for those online trainings!

@france_images When I studied in Paris, I thought these were too cheesy and that I'd never do one. A few trips later, someone who was traveling with me talked me into taking one. Now, I do an evening boat cruise every time I go! You really do get a great view of the city.

@k12careers That's a tough one, but probably one of the committees on which I serve (or limit the number of committees, since I work in a small high school).

@k12careers I wish the profession had more respect, but teachers need to stop making the news for the wrong reasons. (That's part of the issue!) The concern for me is working conditions. Things are added to our plates, but there's never anything removed from them (& they're spilling over).

@k12careers I think it's better-paying fields. Teaching is not as respected as it once was, but other fields do pay more, especially with experience. Experienced teachers (in TN) don't really make much more. One former student double majored in law and uses her language skills as a lawyer.

@k12careers It's a very thin pipeline. Three former students (that I know of) have become world language teachers, but none is teaching world language in public school. One is teaching in a college, and I'm so happy for him. The other two are teaching other subjects (hired in years ago).

@educator4ever36 @Vertok55 I don't believe most world language instructors today use such outdated approaches--not the ones I know, at least. Furthermore, my students in this poor, rural community desperately need exposure to other cultures, which is a primary goal of my program, not fluency.

@jcbowman @ProEdTN @WKRN @ToriGessnerTV This is a step in the right direction, IMHO. There must be a balance. This past year, my students used textbooks and paper more than in the previous few years. I believe they better retained information, but of course there's no evidence to back up my claim, just my opinion.

@MrZachG In my experience, administrators don't hold teachers accountable & follow through with disciplinary action. Part of the problem is the ineptitude of some administrators, some of it is they just want to move to the CO, some of it's political, some is no CO backing/support, etc.

@jcbowman @WKRN @ToriGessnerTV @ProEdTN Honestly, I fell like teachers have been under attack since the Race to the Top initiative. I began teaching in 1997, so this will be my 30th year. I've seen lots of changes, and most of them have been negative. I'm not talking about pay, because it's actually improved.

@TnCoNews1 I'd rather lock in Standard Time, but I also think the entire state should be on Central Time.
