This time, both candidates for Oregon Governor want the state’s largest school district to keep empty buildings open at the expense of students and taxpayers.

Let me explain. Portland Public Schools have known for decades that they have very underutilized buildings. Some of them are only 25 percent occupied.
The sharp decline in students since the pandemic only made the situation more acute.
So, PPS announced a plan to close as many as 14 buildings they don’t need.
Population estimates show that students in the failing government-run schools will decline another 10 to 15 percent in the next decade.
So, whether you’re a parent, a student, a teacher, or just a homeowner…do you want to waste resources to keep an almost empty building open…or close it down, save the resources, and apply them to actually teaching the kids?
Governor Kotek and Drazan got one thing right: the Portland school board and superintendent did a lousy job of communicating to the public about the forces driving this decision.
PPS is also guilty of putting off these closures for decades instead of right-sizing the system on an ongoing basis.
But with both Governor candidates arguing to waste resources, you gotta wonder, who’s gonna actually lead the way out of this mess.

My HOA sent me a letter requesting that I stop handing out full-size candy bars for Halloween this year.

-Fun-size bars are usually 15–25¢ each.

-Full-size are around 75¢–$1.

Most people give out 2–3 fun-size anyway, so the real difference is often only a few cents per kid.

Adult decisions forced more than half the Camas High School girls' cross-country team to walk off the course yesterday.
The girls forfeited because adults decided to make those girls run against a boy to satisfy the demands of LGBT politics.
One month and a few days ago, Logan Milhailoff ran track as a male, but not very successfully, so he brought his body built on teen testosterone to the girls' track team.
Coaches on the public payroll let it happen. So did principals and superintendents and school board members.
All of them allegedly adults. All of them more than willing to make those girls pay rather than risk the anger of America’s radical sexual politics.
Cowards, all of them. If no one else will say it, I will.
Any of them who want to come on my talk show and explain why they would make these girls pay for their negligence, I’d give them all the time they need.
In the meantime, bravo to the Camas Girls Cross Country team. And don’t forget to vote yes on Washington Initiative 638 to fix the problem these political poltroons refuse to confront.
