A path I walk along regularly was surfaced a few years ago to help keep it intact through winters and bad weather. The material used contains countless ceramic shards strewn over and embedded in its 4km length. I spend a lot of time looking at the ground when I walk it.

And some retain their shape, cracked into tessellation as they were pressed into the ground.
