Captain Ibrahim Traoré stood before his nation and spoke a truth that had been buried for over a thousand years. He named the Arab slave trade. Not in whispers. Not in academic papers. But in a televised address, to a country that is overwhelmingly Muslim.

"The people came, first the Arab-Muslim conquests. That is over a thousand years of slavery in Africa," he said. He spoke of men castrated so they could not father children. He named the year 1962, when the last slave market closed in Medina. He refused to let silence protect a historical crime.

This was not an attack on Islam. Traoré is a Muslim himself. This was an act of reckoning. He was saying what the entire continent had been afraid to say: that Africa was enslaved by two systems, and only one of them is allowed to be remembered. The West's crime is taught in schools. The East's crime is erased.

The reaction was swift and fierce. Gulf states condemned him. Some clerics called it Islamophobic. But Traoré pressed forward. He announced that Burkina Faso would recall hundreds of students studying Sharia law abroad, warning that some returned with teachings incompatible with national unity. He declared the state secular, and no religious law—Islamic or otherwise—would govern it.

Why does this matter? Because the Sahel is burning. Jihadist groups are recruiting with a distorted version of faith, and that distortion has been imported and funded from outside Africa for centuries. By naming the Arab slave trade, Traoré severed the spiritual authority that foreign clerics have held over African Muslims. He asked a question that should echo across the continent: "Are we cursed?" His answer was no. Africa was not cursed. Africa was conquered, colonized, and enslaved by two different powers. And the only way to break free is to name it, teach it, and refuse to let it be silenced.

An Italian restaurant chain in California and Nevada has to pay $3 million in a sexual harassment settlement after an investigation identified at least 100 female workers, MANY OF WHOM WERE TEENAGERS, who were negatively affected by the workplace environment.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says that supervisors and coworkers at Il Fornaio's 17 restaurants harassed women in ways that included unwanted touching, requests for sexual favors, and explicit comments.

The CEO of Il Fornaio is Ronald Joseph (RJ) Thomas Jr. Company management has denied wrongdoing despite all the evidence compiled by the EEOC going back several years.

Over 100 women and teenagers provided detailed, consistent accounts. Not to mention all the digital and physical evidence like text messages, chat histories, and internal complaint records.

...But sure, "nothing happened," and they're just paying $3 million out of the kindness of their "heart."

Anyone who's ever worked at restaurants has seen first-hand how gross the sexual harassment is. A financial slap on the wrist is nothing. Using the workplace as a weapon of sexual coercion should result in criminal charges.

A masked man ambushed an 18-year-old girl outside her apartment and began dragging her down four flights of stairs. She screamed and fought to escape, but the attacker was determined to force her out of the building.

It happened in Queens, New York, where Lex Alvarez had just returned from walking her dogs when a masked stranger emerged from the stairwell and grabbed her outside her apartment.

Her mother, Adriana Alvarez, heard her daughter’s screams and rushed outside. When she saw the man trying to drag Lex away, she immediately attacked him, determined to stop him from taking her daughter.

What followed was a violent struggle that continued down four flights of stairs. The man punched Adriana repeatedly and sprayed her with pepper spray, but even as she suffered serious injuries, she kept fighting to free Lex from his grip.

Eventually, a neighbor heard the commotion and rushed to help. Together, they managed to stop the attacker, allowing Lex to escape safely.

Adriana was left with a fractured eye socket, an injured elbow and nerve damage to her face, but her daughter was safe. The attacker was later arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

This mother endured a brutal attack because she refused to let a stranger take her daughter. Adriana Alvarez deserves some serious recognition for the courage she showed that day.

A restaurant owner in New York City was arrested for withholding at least $8,000 from 5 workers who performed kitchen, dishwashing, and delivery duties for him.

Patrick Griffin, 71, was charged with grand larceny by wage theft, fraud, and failure to pay wages. All 3 of his restaurants have been permanently closed.

This is a big deal because wage theft used to be a civil dispute, which gets resolved with some fines and a slap on the wrist.

In 2023, New York amended the law to explicitly classify wage theft as criminal grand larceny. Under this law, any stolen wages over $1,000 allows prosecutors to bring felony charges.

Griffin's charges fall under a Class D felony.

District attorneys in New York are actively using criminal law to prosecute employers who steal from their workers instead of leaving the issue to civil courts. The entire USA should follow suit.

Phosa as former Treasurer General of the ANC talks about his tenure that coincided with the 100 years centenary celebrations of the ANC, which he proudly says was a successful one, where he raised R280 million for the ANC overseas.

But then he says something interestingly shocking, that during that time, he gave provincial ANC Offices millions of money for their operations and campaigns, "so that they didn't have to pilfer from municipalities. He says now they are not getting that money, if they don't steal from provincial level, they pilfer from municipalities".

The evidence presented by Advocate Chaskalson at the Commission, that Carrim oversaw municipality tenders, had to quickly be cut, for him not to ever be probed on it. Immediately that came up, that's the last time we saw Carrim at the Commission. He got the best lawyers to make sure he never testifies. Was he going to skip the country on Thursday night, unfortunately he was caught? Will he be released under the assumption that he was simply innocently travelling attending a Pilgrimage as some are already insisting? Will he be protected so as to protect the party? We just continue to watch and observe..
