uPEGs: the unexpected onchain merger

The NFT market peaked at roughly $25 billion in trading volume in 2022. At its height, people were spending millions on static image files, pre-designed by teams and uploaded to IPFS before a single wallet touched them. The object existed before the market did. Ownership was the product, not the activity.

The memecoin cycle that followed was the opposite. Over 13 million memecoins launched in 2025 alone. The total memecoin market cap hit an all-time high of $150.6 billion in December 2024.

Both cycles moved billions. Both had real cultural gravity. But they each had a structural hole: NFTs were inert, and memecoins were disposable.
