From the heart of the Ozarks to the heart of your home. A story of life from family, friends, reviews, creations and coffee. And occasionally, so much more.
In the right hands, I think it will be a beloved book. I am not the right hands. Love a spitfire female main character set into a romance during WW2 with some unconventional settings? This could be the book for you.

Knowing that I knew absolutely nothing about this ship, citadel, or time period in history, I went in full of hope and trepidation. I hate to say I fell in love because the story itself is very dark, but I was drawn into the history and the people.

So, you think you are settling into a nice and tidy little literary historical story. Then chapter 8 happens. It’s a brilliant mind that weaves together this much chaos with accuracy. The depth and detail it took to get there was absolutely enchanting.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to write a review of a book you loved? There’s nothing to complain about, and you want to gush, but you can really only gush with people who get it. So step one: go read this book so we can gush together.

That ending ya’ll. The twists you never saw coming and the turns that will take even a seasoned pro off their game. That ending makes up for several flaws I had throughout the story. Not all, but that ending will make you rethink everything.

Listening to Reba read this book is like sitting around drinking some coffee (or sweet tea- half-cut, please) and sharing stories and memories. Reading this book, it’s full of pictures and recipes. Like my Momma, I love a good recipe collection.

There’s a lot of historical fiction about WW2, and it’s getting difficult to find books that tell a different story. This is that book. Yes, I wish it had more depth and feeling. It's fresher than what is flooding the book market for this history.

Ya’ll, I almost passed on this book. I saved it to read, but then things just got a little crazy, and I was running out of time. I made the time. Don’t sleep on this book. Make the time because it will resonate with your soul on so many levels.

Overall, a great ending to this series, and I truly did love the suspense, the twists, the turns, and the ultimate outcome for all the ladies. Cara Putman did a great job really telling their stories. Truth though, the romance in this one bothered me.

Total podcast vibes. It’s a great launching point for those interested in learning more about Patty Hearst. It’s a great supplement for those that have a lot of knowledge. And it’s a great snippet for those who just like true crime.

I was prepared to love the penguins; I mean, who doesn’t think they are absolutely adorable and sometimes hilarious? I wasn’t prepared to actually like Veronica. Entitled, Persnickety, Annoying Veronica.

I learned, I felt, and I feel like we need more books like this. Real women with real struggles and real overcoming. We can’t erase the past, and human nature will human nature, but if we don’t remember and learn, we will never do better.

The writing style is almost lyrical- a lot of words, but they weave together to create a narrative and characters that you really fall in love with. And the narrator on the audiobook? Honestly, it really brought that lyrical quality to life for me.

What I feel like I didn't get the depth I wanted in characters; the mystery kept me twisting and turning throughout, and honestly, even the nefarious people surprised me. Not that they were 'bad,' but the reasons surprised me. The twists here are fire!

I enjoyed the story, the interplay of characters with some seriously old-fashioned names, but the narrator really did not do it for me at all.

This is definitely a cozy mystery. A little too easy, a little zany, but a whole lot of fun. And just like Scooby Doo once it’s all figured out by the ladies everyone just comes clean and tells it all. As a cozy mystery should be.

Overall, the idea is strong, the tension is perfect, and the outcome is yet to come. But the execution left me a lot to be desired.

I’m invested in this group and the future of this series, but honestly, I felt too rushed with too little connection, as so many plot points were thrown at me that never developed depth or attachment for me.
