I have been in three different countries at steel events over the past month and every. single. time. I ended up having a Kate Middleton discussion (and no, I never initiated the topic). This is worse, and longer, than the Titan submersible discussion of 2023.
"prices of grey steel and green steel will continuously align until the 2030s" - not sure Lopez wanted to make such a statement so publicly (judging from the grunting immediately afterwards) #tkhv2024
I'm always amazed by the figurative speech of Thyssenkrupp shareholders: "green worm" = energy transition, "green octopus tentacles" = energy policies (?), usual recurring Beckett wordplay "waiting for Godot" = still no solution for steel

Tata Steel putting a lot of hope here in having enough high-grade DRI pellets and scrap for the future EAF, on top of energy costs - gonna be pricey, but they say it's the only viable option #welshaffairscomittee
don't quite get the argument of moving away of global trade volatility by not importing iron ore/coking coal as if local scrap prices (if volumes available) would be detached from global scrap prices
The Tata Steel move is certainly more radical than other European steelmakers, they dodge a bridging solution and go straight in for the EAF, being dependent on imports (and the price fluctuations!). Happy import quota days for traders to come...

Ok so it appears that Port Talbot is heading to the production capacity it was actually producing by idling two BFs and establishing one EAF. Very curious to see the timeline between idling two and building one. Market speculation is WILD on that.

Fox News anchor: "I remember, 20 years-old, going to Trier, Germany and trying to find the home of Karl Marx 'cause, you know, 1848, he wrote Mein Kampf. I wanted to know what was all about. So, that's part of the education in America."

Discontent in the UK #steel industry as Tata Steel is supporting its own production with Indian imports - expected to fill up quotas until end of year leaving importers high and dry (or with the dilemma of not clearing imports vs paying a 25% duty). A little write up by myself:
