This is Jean Hilliard, the Minnesota teenager who was found frozen solid, and lived.

On the night of December 20, 1980, the 19-year-old was driving home near Lengby when her car slid into a ditch in 22-below cold.

Wearing little more than a coat, mittens, and cowboy boots, she set out on foot for her friend Wally Nelson's farmhouse, two miles away.

She collapsed just 15 feet from his front door and lay in the snow for 6 hours.

When Nelson found her at dawn, he thought she was d*ad. Her body was frozen so stiff he had to slide her diagonally across the back seat of a car to get her to the hospital in Fosston.

There, her temperature was too low to register on a thermometer, her skin was reportedly too hard for needles to pierce, her eyes didn't respond to light, and doctors found a faint pulse of about 12 beats per minute.

With few options, staff wrapped her in electric heating pads. Within hours she was conscious and talking, and she eventually walked out of the hospital with little more than blisters on her frostbitten toes.

Doctors never fully explained her survival, and more than four decades later it remains one of the most remarkable hypothermia recoveries on record.
