Dangote is worth tens of billions of dollars. He does not have tens of billions sitting in any account.
His wealth is shares. Ownership stakes, priced daily by the market.
And when billionaires need cash, they rarely sell. They borrow against the shares. Selling ends the compounding and triggers tax. Borrowing keeps the asset growing while freeing the money.
Now you understand the game: the poor sell assets to solve problems. The rich borrow against assets and let the assets keep working.
If Olise gets to 34 assists, he still can’t get to 82 goals
If Kane gets to 82 goals he still can’t get to 34 assists
That’s why Lionel Messi is out of this world.
Reports suggest Manchester United offered Mateus Fernandes around £170k per week and offered West Ham were £70m plus £15m in add-ons.
Spurs offered £85m guaranteed and reportedly gave Fernandes a £250k-per-week contract. West Ham also informed INEOS to match Spurs’s offer which INEOS declined.
If those figures are accurate, I completely understand why INEOS walked away and I’m in total support.
They’ve repeatedly said they won’t get dragged into bidding wars and that was West Ham’s intention.
Also, abandoning that principle for one player would undermine the discipline they’re trying to build especially not a player like Fernandes. He’s not in the calibre of players that command such treatment.
We’ve spent years overpaying on both transfer fees and wages, and that’s a cycle the club has to break which INEOS are working hard to achieve.
Equally, if a player truly prioritised joining Manchester United, you’d expect that commitment to be reflected during negotiations but when it is dominated by escalating wages and competing bids, it’s fair for the club to reassess whether it’s the right deal.
Missing out on a talented player is disappointing, but sticking to a long-term strategy is better than repeating the mistakes that put the club in this position.
Not every deal is worth winning at all cost.
Reinvest your dividends or stay average forever.
Every dividend you spend is a brick you remove from a house you are still building.
Reinvested, those same payouts compound quietly into the bulk of your long-run return. Spent, they just disappear into a weekend.
