REUTERS: French prosecutors will charge Lebanon's central bank governor with fraud for faking account statements to conceal his wealth.

A reminder that international auditing firm BDO (its Lebanese partner BDO-Semaan) enabled this fraud by producing a report that was described as an "audit" to clear the governor's name in the Forry embezzlement scandal. The report drew misleading conclusions and was not even an audit, but BDO remained silent while its name and credibility were used to perpetuate a fraud, making it a part to the fraud.

International firms have been instrumental in enabling the theft of Lebanese wealth.

Even now, the international firm Alvarez & Marsal is conducting a fake, nonsensical forensic audit of the BDL. We paid $2.7 million for an audit that is designed to fail. The company's partners enrich themselves at our expense.

Before that, Deloitte and Ernst & Young prepared audits of the BDL financial statements for years, which gave credibility to what has turned out to be one of the most devastating accounting frauds in history.
