This is a complicated issue but I will ALWAYS side with the oppressed over the oppressor, and in this case Israel has shown a complete disregard for human life through the displacement of millions of innocent Palestinians, murder of thousands, and war crimes like dropping phosphorus gas in one of the most densely populated areas in the world, Gaza.

The media has been completely one-sided, often highlighting attacks done by Hamas but neglecting to show the atrocities committed by Israel. They portray the Palestinian side as “terrorists,” with Israel just trying to maintain order. This is a misrepresentation of the issue and Palestinians deserve independence, and not to be kicked out of their homes that they have lived in for years, or have their water shut off by the Israeli government.

While I do not condone the extent of the violence that Palestinian extremist groups may be guilty of, I do support the overall idea that the majority are fighting for: for Palestine to be free from Israeli rule and to have their own sovereign state.

I recognize that many leftists have taken this conflict as an opportunity to be anti-semitic and this is absolutely not the response that pro-Palestinians should have. I pray for all my Jewish brothers and sisters to be safe during this time.

Also, I want to acknowledge that this is a scary time for anyone with friends and relatives in both Israel and Palestine. Many of us online are talking about this from the comfort of our homes without a stake in the conflict, so I pray for anyone whose close ones are impacted by this violence.

I stand with the resistance, and pray a peaceful conclusion arrives soon.
