In my book Rediscovering #Kindergarten, I talk about incorporating more opportunities for play, exploration, and hands-on learning. K-2 Teachers: What do you need to engage your students in those ways?
@tetheredtoed1 You're not saying anything I disagree with. The point I'm making is that there is more to kindergarten than writing numbers and letters and learning to read words. The deep learning happens through conversation, exploration, hands-on activities.
@DanaPalubiak Yes, I agree. If K teachers had the flexibility to spend more time on skills that develop naturally through play, students would be more likely to thrive in the later grades.
Has #kindergarten drifted too far toward rigid academics and too far away from how young children learn best?
Later this month, join us for an engaging conversation on my new book, Rediscovering Kindergarten.
