What we saw in Denver this week is only the beginning! The Washington post reported & showed documentation from November 4th notifying the Broncos of the illegality of Wilson’s potential benching. Based on their mayors' comments, it's clear the migrant & human trafficking crisis is becoming an economic risk to NYC, Chicago and some other major cities.

If you were wondering about why it is finally gaining more attention, it's because the numbers are large and getting larger, and city budgets are being strained, risking city services for those most in need.

Every one of these is a human life who just wants something better for themselves and their families.

Keep in mind many are paying tens of thousands of dollars to human smugglers just to get to the border. It is a multi-billion dollar business.

2015: 444,859
2016: 553,378
2017: 415,517
2018: 521,090
2019: 977,509
2020: 400,651 (covid)
2021: 1.77 milion
2022: 2.37 million
2023: 2.47 million
2024 pace: 2.8-3.0 million

FY2024 is already underway with an average of 240,000+ encounters per month.

At some point soon we may have as many encounters in a month as we did in a full year not that long ago.

Wait time for first asylum hearings are now likely 5+ years out. So these lives are on hold with nowhere to eat or sleep for nearly half a decade.

Note: Gov't changed terminology from "apprehension" to "encounters" and encounters can also include removals (which are low) but thus numbers are not exactly analogous.
