Fantasy doesn't always need another warrior race. Sometimes I want the people whose greatest strength is knowing when not to fight.

What about you?

The AOFC doesn't have just one world.
The Realm is divided.
There is the Outer Realm.
And there is the Inner Realm—a volatile world of magic that can be dangerous even to those who enter it.

Five months of letters from this world.

And now, finally, the thing at the heart of it.

A knight. A dying boy. A quest that will ask for more than any sword can give.

The Adventures of Fillip Caspiarre is coming.

Keep your eyes here.

[J. S. @LCWrite]

What sends a proud man into the unknown?

Not glory. Not duty. Not the king who trusts him.

A child.

A small, specific, beloved child who is running out of time.

What would you walk into the dark for?

[J. S. @LCWrite]

Fillip Caspiarre didn't choose this quest because he wanted to but because the one person his pride could not protect itself against is too young to understand why uncle keeps a careful distance.

Love has a way of ambushing even the most fortified of men.

[J. S. @LCWrite]

A dying nephew.
A knight who fears nothing except being the reason someone doesn't survive.

And a world on the other side of a mirror that doesn't care about either of those things.

The quest was never really about the cure.

[J. S. @LCWrite]

The first page of The Adventures of Fillip Caspiarre has a knight in the rain.

By the last, he is somewhere entirely different.

Not in place.

In himself.

That is the only journey that ever truly counts.

A quest story lives or dies on one question:

Is what the hero is chasing worth what it will cost them?

Fillip is chasing a cure for a dying boy.

What it will cost him is the one thing he swore he would never spend again.

Trust.

Here's what few know about Fillip Caspiarre:

He would lay down his sword for his brother without a second thought; it's the second thought that undoes him.

The one where he wonders if he's the right man to be trusted with someone else's survival.

Fantasy worlds often have one place you'd absolutely love to visit.
And one place you'd refuse to enter.
What makes a fictional world feel dangerous to you?

[J. S. @LCWrite]

Some characters enter a story because they're powerful.
Others enter because someone believes they are worth protecting.
Illena's journey asks a quieter question:
What happens when the person being protected doesn't believe they're worth saving?

[J. S. @LCWrite]

Here's a character question:
What makes a character compelling to you?

▪︎Their power?
▪︎Their personality?
▪︎Their wounds?
▪︎Or the thing they desperately want but don't believe they deserve?

#AOFC #readerscommunity #WritingCommunity

[J. S. @LCWrite]

Illena cannot see the world the way everyone else does.
But that doesn't make her less important to the journey.
She's quiet. Vulnerable. And she sees herself as expendable--a belief that can be far more dangerous than any monster.

@Ahmadanimators Hi! People like you are amazing for beginning writers like myself, and I thank you for supporting me with a follow. Stay awesome and blessed!

[J. S. @LCWrite]

Al'gor was once a prisoner of House Darilgo.
Then he became Dilgo's protector.
Then he disappeared.
Five years passed after he marked her.
Some bonds survive distance.
Others are changed by it.

[J. S. @LCWrite]

He trusts no one.
Not because he is wise.
But because he has failed before.

And the boy he is walking into the unknown for cannot afford another failure.

Neither can he.

Answer me this: What's more interesting in a fantasy character?

A character whose loyalty is unquestionable…

or one whose loyalty you have to figure out?
