Cultivating a coaching culture helps develop positive relationships between staff and leaders. It shows teachers that leaders value their input and development. #pdsl@Leaders_SoE @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@JacquelineJord
To be a great leader means to find the potential for greatness in others, however it presents itself.

Enjoyed spending time reflective on my own values in order to identify what I want to see in leaders? It’s so important to recognise our values before looking to leadership! @JacquelineJord @patriciamannixm #pdsl#leadership#educational
"It can take between five and seven years for principals to drive school improvement'(Fullan, 2001). Have I afforded leaders sufficient time to effect change or judged their leadership prematurely given my own desire for urgent change?#pdsl@Leaders_SoE@jacquelinejord
Through engaging in coaching, aspiring leaders can develop their emotional intelligence, key to promoting positive relationships in the school community. @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE#pdsl@JacquelineJord
I have been lucky to work with some leaders who build leadership capacity in others and I hope that is the type of leader I will become.@niamhickey @patriciamannixm #pdsl#leadership@Leaders_SoE
Interesting reads this week regarding Unconscious Bias. How we see others affects they way we interact with them. Going into any situation with an open mind and a clean slate is the best thing we can do to support. #pdsl#leadership@niamhickey@JacquelineJord @patriciamannixm
Content on strength-based work has pushed me to examine my attitude towards my colleagues. N.Hickey suggests the way we see colleagues impacts the way we engage with them. Do I see the deficits or the strengths? A challenge for my practice this week. @patriciamannixm @niamhickey
So what have I learned so far?🤔 In short, it seems to me that leadership is not for the faint-hearted!! It is, perhaps, for the open-hearted... @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE#pdsl#takingstock
A reminder how important the group process is when overcoming conflicts. It takes times and can be hard but important to identify and overcome conflicts for progress to be made! @patriciamannixm @Leaders_SoE@JacquelineJord#pdsl
The session on feedback + courageous conversations brought me back to the 4 agreements. It’s important we know our own thoughts before having meaningful conversations and be in a position to listen with the aim to understand. #pdsl@Leaders_SoE @patriciamannixm @JacquelineJord
What if difficult conversations were not seen as 'difficult' anymore? Rather they became learning conversations where both parties shared their opinion respectfully and remained connected. Possibilities for improvement would be endless. @patriciamannixm @niamhickey#PDSL
Constructive feedback will help us learn, grow and motivate us to perform better for our school community. So why not ask for it instead of waiting for it?
🗣️Ask for feedback with sincerity
😃Accept it with grace
💓Apply it with kindness

“If culture is a school’s personality, climate is its attitude. The big difference- far easier to change an attitude than a personality!” This caused me to stop and think! A great insight from a book on school culture! #pdsl@Leaders_SoE@niamhickey @patriciamannixm
Active listening is a key skill to develop as a leader. Nature gave us two ears and only one tongue; Listen twice as much as you talk! @niamhickey @patriciamannixm @JacquelineJord@Leaders_SoE#pdsl
