There had been some discussion of the Teach Like A Champion technique SLANT this weekend, with it being described by @PhilBeadle as a ‘crude technique of coercion’.
Amazing to me how far people go with being ‘appalled’ by schools they don’t like but have never been to, fired up by selected snipes and gripes. ‘School shaming is wrong.. of course… but let me just weigh in on this one because I don’t like it…’ (seal claps all round)… 1/n
Many colleagues are talking about the challenges we face with behaviour post-lockdown. Truancy, lateness to lessons and defiance can eat away at a school’s culture. The impact on pupils, staff and achievement can ultimately ruin the life chances of the most disadvantaged.
Scripts are a massively useful tool for staff. Embedding routines or shared strategies that make teaching great lessons is a complex business, not least for teachers who already have so many plates to spin in the classroom.
