SAM (Smart Approaches to Marijuana) advocates for a commonsense, third-way approach to marijuana policy. NYT: The “well-coordinated opposition.” @gooddrugpolicy
BREAKING: Senate caves to Big Hemp.
“Over the next five months, SAM and our partners will make sure voters in every state know exactly who chose to protect gas station THC over their own children.” - SAM CEO @KevinSabet

Sheehy surrenders to Big Hemp, pushes national THC legalization “just like alcohol”
Is @TimSheehyMT pro-weed legalization now? Sure sounds like it.

Captain America: "Compromise where you can. Where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say, 'No, you move.'" @SenTedBuddNC
NEW: Cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) is on the rise.
- ER diagnoses of CHS have gone up 16% since last October.
- 200k ER visits since January 2023
- 2.75M Americans are affected each year.
A bipartisan group of state attorneys general is urging Congress not to delay the federal ban on intoxicating hemp products.
SAM was proud to help gather signatures for this important letter and support efforts to close the hemp loophole without delay.

From 2018 to 2023, ER visits in the U.S. for pediatric cannabis poisoning increased by 461%. This is a public health crisis that demands immediate attention.
56 national & state public health groups support eliminating the hemp loophole. I hope my colleagues join the fight. The health & wellness of the American people, especially our children, depend on it.
BIG NEWS: @SenTedBudd's amendment to save the hemp ban is officially BIPARTISAN - his allies are growing by the hour.
As a leader against drugs for decades, I know how hard this noble fight can be. Ted Budd IS the man in the arena. He is facing down Big Hemp — its lobbyists, its money, its scare campaigns — in his own backyard, to protect kids from intoxicating THC products sold in gas stations across America.
I know something about standing up to an addiction-for-profit industry that will lie, cheat, and intimidate to keep its products on shelves. It's lonely at first. Then it's bipartisan. Then it's the law.
Hold the line, Senator. November 12 must stand.
From 2018–2023, pediatric marijuana poisoning ER visits surged 461%. 91% of cases involved kids 4 or younger. Nearly half were hospitalized.
@SenTedBuddNC is right: no delays, no carveouts.
Thank you to @SenTedBuddNC for refusing to back down in the face of pressure from the hemp industry.
This loophole has led to a surge of kid-friendly intoxicating products flooding store shelves across the country. The Senate should let the ban take effect without delay and without carveouts.
There is no reason to delay the scheduled changes to the federal definition of hemp. Delays endanger Americans by allowing dangerous drugs to remain on the market.
For this reason, FRC will score in favor of @SenTedBuddNC's amendment # 6733 to the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act of 2027 (H.R. 6500) should it receive a stand-alone vote.
Gas station weed is flooding smoke shops and gas stations, and the White House is running interference to delay the ban. I told @nytimes exactly why:
“pay-to-play drug policy” that protects insiders over kids.
📢 Community Voices Series:
Marijuana addiction among young people is climbing in communities across the country. This isn't the weed of a generation ago. It's a high-potency product built to hook them.
#BigTobacco#Addictionforprofit#CommunityVoices
The debate is too often framed as a false choice: legalize marijuana or throw people in jail. It's not. Nobody wants criminal records for low-level possession. That's very different from commercializing today's high-potency THC industry.
My message for @jamestalarico 👇
The Senate voted 76-24 to ban these dangerous products. Today, 35 state attorneys general called on Congress to keep this ban in place.

Intoxicating THC gummies are poisoning and killing our children.
Congress should, and must, close the hemp loophole — not fight to keep these poisons on store shelves.
This is a matter of public health and safety.
