Learning for the Fourth Age (L4A) is a Leicester based charity providing learning to older people receiving care. You're never too old to learn - we prove it!
After 16 years improving wellbeing & quality of life for people in care homes, L4A will be closing on 31st March 2024. We have a fantastic history of impact to celebrate, loads of great resources to share & so many supporters to thank before then. Pls get in touch for more info!
A throw back to our Community Links project from 2012 here… an exploration of how to break down the locked doors between care settings & the communities around them https://t.co/6D0bzrQOm3
A fantastic day celebrating all the brilliant impact Learning for the Fourth Age has achieved in the last sixteen years. Thank you so much to everyone who came along to join us today!
The evaluation of “The Power of Stories: Tales for Telling and Sharing” is a wealth of quotes celebrating good quality of life in care settings. Struggling to choose from them today… but this one is up there! https://t.co/uPy0nNr64B
Reflecting back on a hugely successful project from 2017 working with c12 care homes across Leicester/Leicestershire to embed cultures of storytelling with residents. https://t.co/6v2Rs6AAaQ
Thank you to Mel Knott & fab @dmuleicester students Holly, Ellie, Amber & Steph for bringing dance into care settings this week. It’s been a delight singing in the rain with you all! 🎶 ☂️
Great to have a meeting of our activity coordinators network again this week. With fab local mindfulness practitioner Kimberley Keeber, we explored a series of mindfulness exercises together, including a full body scan, sound & eating chocolate!
We are reflecting back on our work since we started in 2008 so here is a video demonstrating the impact & importance of learning for older people receiving care from 14 years ago in 2010…! https://t.co/3Z7IkrKMPT
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… some of the painted baubles made at our Winter Wonderland session for care home staff last week, which was packed full of ideas for effective activities for residents!
@Learning4thAge Congratulations on 16 years of brilliant work, it's been a pleasure to know and work with you for a couple of them. We look forward to celebrating you before March!
#TheJanuaryChallenge by @64M_Artists is back & we’ve been honoured to adapt some of the challenges to make them more suitable for people living & working in care. Sign up here for your care home & challenge yourselves to start 2024 with more creativity: https://t.co/e8hQi2RFaB
Getting creatively lost during a “workshop for wellbeing” earlier - one of our activity coordinators’ network meetings. We explored an alternative way of doing papier-mâché & took away plenty of options to be shared with care home residents later on too.
Fantastic to have brought staff together from care homes across Leicester/Leicestershire today for Mental Health First Aid training. Thank you to trainer Sue from @MHFAEngland, Wyggeston’s for hosting & our very own Fiona Smith for organising everything.
