@tamilsnoopy@duolingo hey! we actually built a whole app for this - spoken/colloquial Tamil, audio-first, designed for English speakers. check out https://t.co/GLkMX3Yobv if you're serious about it π
Vanakkam is how Tamil speakers greet each other - but it means much more than "hello."
It comes from the word vanangu, which means "to bow" or "to show reverence". When you say vanakkam, you're acknowledging the other person with respect.
A greeting that carries grace. π
Tamil isn't just a language. It's a 5,000-year-old living tradition with its own classical literature, film industry, and 80 million speakers worldwide.
And yet most people outside South Asia have never tried to learn it.
That's about to change. π
Nobody says "Naan nalamaaga irukkiren"
They say "Nalla irukken"
If you learned Tamil from a textbook, you learned a dialect nobody speaks. We're fixing that.
