There is a great gulf between the Christianity that wrestles with whether to worship at the cost of imprisonment and death, and the Christianity that wrestles with whether the kids should play soccer on Sunday morning.

A Prayer of Letting
Stephen Smith
As I let go, may I be held.
As I lie down in exhaustion, please pick me up in strength.
As I release, do not release me.
As loosen my grip, tighten the space of your presence.
As I fall apart, pick up my shattered pieces.
As I watch you from afar, draw near to me inside my mind.
As I embrace my aloneness, be ever present with me.
As I fill up with anxiety, drain me of my worry.
As I flounder in my grief, help me find the Rock on which to stand.
As I confess my desolations, remind me that You are my consolation.
As I search for peace, please just show up!
As I close my eyes at night, may I be open to you in my sleep.
Amen.
Jim Carrey's heartfelt message to a room of former inmates at Homeboy Industries: "This room is filled with God... You are heroes to me."
He opens up about his own challenges: Suffering leads to salvation—it's the only path. We must feel our pain and losses fully, then choose:
- The gate of resentment → vengeance → self-harm → harm to others
- Or the gate of forgiveness → grace
Just as Christ did on the cross—suffering terribly, doubting, feeling abandoned—yet choosing compassion and forgiveness for those causing the pain.
"That's what opens the gates of heaven for all of us."
Your presence shows you've already chosen grace.

In tough times, has choosing forgiveness over resentment brought you grace? Or what's the hardest part of that choice for you?
Institutions, organizations, ministries, places, systems are not Jesus Christ. Nor is Christendom the same as the living body of Christ. I fear many of us have confused Christendom, or our little corner of it, with Christ. They are not, nor have they ever been the same.

Night Prayer: Lord, thank you that in our moments of failure, rather than giving up on us, you continue to have faith in us; give us the courage we need to face our failures, to learn from them, and to listen to how you are leading us into our tomorrow.
Often times, being a judgmental critic doesn't make you part of the solution - it makes you part of the problem. https://t.co/dZyeIAkfmQ via @cnieuwhof
