Memecoins are creator coins in disguise:
Humans are social animals before anything else. We cluster, we mirror the people we find compelling, we adopt their language and their references without being asked to. That's not a crypto thing, it's a people thing.
Every coin that got traction did so because someone was able to pull people around them.
The memes are nice, sure. Something to screenshot, something a stranger gets in three seconds. But it's a rallying point, not the substance. What holds a coin together is the main characters pushing it.
What we've been calling memecoins were engagement machines first, tokens second.
Look at the ones that lasted. There's usually someone behind them: Unipcs and Bonk. Ansem and WIF. Doge had the dogecoin millionaire, then it had Elon.
So why does the distinction still matter?
Because of what the creator owes.
Pushing a memecoin is a low-commitment position. You can shill it hard for six months and rotate to the next one, and nobody holds it against you, that's the game. Nothing was promised, so nothing was broken. The meme doesn't ask you to stay.
A creator coin does. Once you've put your name on something, walking away has a cost. Not to the holders, to you. Your reputation is inside the thing.
But a creator coin isn't defined by being named after someone or having a face on the logo. It's defined by someone being accountable for it. The ticker can be anything, the art can be a frog. What makes it a creator coin is that there's a person who won't disappear even if it -99%. Examples:
@educkcoin & @rektmando@Trencher_Sol & @grizzle_art@solangelestv & @aibaldking
Plenty of coins with a person's name on them are just memecoins with better branding. Plenty of coins with no name attached are creator coins in every way that counts.
A creator coin can last longer than most memecoins if the person carrying it is playing a long game. The creator will probably watch it -99% and not everybody can handle it.
But nothing stops them from showing up the next day, and the next and still defending it. Most won't. And that's the real filter.
As the years pass (and remember how young the onchain economy still is) the moat will keep deepening around a very small set of creators.
The ones who kept showing up.
Every single fuckin' day.
@blknoiz06 Spot hyper attention on a specific chain or on a meme coin that everyone is talking about ?
Let's be real, even the absolute best tech on a token won't make it pump at all if big KOL aren't talking about it
