ENHYPEN: The Korean Boy Group Shares Their Excitement About Meeting Their Mexican Fans

The K-pop boy group, which will hold four concerts as part of its Blood Saga Tour at Arena Ciudad de México beginning July 11, shared its surprise at its popularity in Mexico during an exclusive interview with MILENIO.

At this point, K-pop’s place in the global music industry is undeniable. Mexico has already witnessed that firsthand with BTS’s visit, a special moment for their fans, known as ARMY. Now, it’s ENGENE’s turn. ENHYPEN is visiting the country for the first time, and their fans have already sold out three concerts at Arena Ciudad de México, along with an additional show at Campo Marte.

The South Korean boy group spoke about their highly anticipated meeting with Mexican culture and reflected on the vampire concept that has become part of their identity in an exclusive interview with MILENIO.

NI-KI, JUNGWON, JAKE, SUNOO, SUNGHOON, and JAY took their seats, greeted the camera, and immediately made it clear that their top priority was finally visiting Mexico.

“First of all, we’re really excited to meet our Mexican fans. We’ve heard they have incredible energy and so much passion for our music, so we’ve been preparing a lot of things to show them,” Jake said.

The members admitted they were surprised by how quickly tickets sold out, which led to additional concert dates being added. Had they known in advance how much demand there would be, they said they would have considered performing at an even larger venue for the more than 22,000 fans expected to attend each night.

“Since it was our first time, we didn’t know how many of our fans, or even K-pop fans in general, we had there. But as more concerts were added, we realized we have so many ENGENEs in Mexico. I also think that if we had known beforehand, choosing a bigger venue so we could meet even more fans would have been a great option,” Sunghoon commented.

What do you think allows your music to connect with people on the other side of the world who come from a very different culture?

“Many fans have found a safe space in our music. They find comfort and healing through it.”

“In any case, because we’re always actively trying to create a sense of connection with our fans through our music, I think we’ve been able to grow the way we have thanks to those efforts and the opportunities we’ve had to connect with people while traveling around the world,” Jay reflected.

Sunoo shared that he experiences many positive emotions whenever he receives countless letters from fans expressing their love for the group’s music. Aware of the responsibility that comes with that support, he strives to be a positive influence and continues working hard to improve with every new album they release.

The members also shared their excitement about trying Mexican cuisine, specifically “tacos, quesadillas, tequila, and guacamole,” pronouncing each word perfectly.

Jungwon took the opportunity to ask whether “edible taco hats” actually exist, imagining something similar to a nacho or tortilla chip hat filled with guacamole, an idea that perhaps only their Mexican fans could bring to life.

“I really can’t wait to try Mexican food. The food there is amazing,” Sunghoon added, while Jay promised to keep practicing his Spanish.
