Calling out Westminster spin, defending the NHS & public services. Sharp UK politics with dry Northern wit. LUFC ๐ค๐๐
Strip away the Westminster bubble nonsense, the polished spin, and the endless culture war distractions cooked up to set working folk against each other. The real question hasnโt changed: Are we running a country that respects and rewards the people who actually graft for a livingโthe care workers, bus drivers, builders, nurses, and shop staffโor one permanently rigged to funnel billions into boardroom bonuses and offshore tax havens? Weโre constantly told "the cupboard is bare" whenever ordinary people ask for fair wages, decent public transport, or a functioning NHS. Yet thereโs always an endless tap of public money to subsidise privatised utilities dumping raw sewage into our rivers and corporate landlords bleeding tenants dry. Wealth doesnโt start in the City of London; it starts on the shop floor, the building site, and the hospital ward. If you create the wealth through honest graft, you deserve fair pay, dignity in your old age, and public services that actually work.
"Electoral Dysfunction" is certainly the right title for it. While party grandees and frontbenchers sip flat whites at live podcast recordings in the conference lounge, working folk outside are wondering how theyโre going to afford the rent or if their state pension is about to be raided next. Less cosy chatter, more building proper council houses
Nail on the head. Weโve had decades of right-wing think-tanks peddling myths about a bloated welfare bill, yet the actual spending figures have been flat for forty years. Labour voters don't want disabled folk squeezed into destitution just to balance the books. Tax corporate profiteering and unearned wealth instead of penny-pinching off the sick.
@SoCalCMH@OutFrontCNN@ErinBurnett Calling anyone who doesnโt shout your exact opinion back at you a "potted plant" is a bit rich. In a media landscape full of screaming talking heads, someone who just asks straightforward questions and lets folk hang themselves with their own answers is doing their job properly.
This is what real integrity looks like. When someone stands up for basic humanity, party rosette colours shouldn't come into it. You took that stand over a decade ago and took the flak for it, Baroness. Refreshing to see politicians admitting the public was right all along instead of doubling down on failed positions
Spot on, Stan. Norway took their North Sea oil, set up a sovereign wealth fund, and built one of the best safety nets on earth. We blew ours on tax cuts for the wealthy and flogged off the family silver. Now weโve got pensioners flogging their own homes just to pay for a care home bed while private equity creams the profits. Absolute national disgrace.
Spot on. You can't run an ageing country on the backs of an exhausted, underpaid working class while untaxed wealth piles up in private accounts. If the working tax base is shrinking, the brass has to come from capital, corporate profits, and extreme wealth. Continuing to fiddle while ignoring the demographic arithmetic is pure foolishness.
@cezthesocialist Spot on. They spend forty years selling off the family silver, gutting council budgets, and privatising every pipe and wire in the country, and then act shocked when the place is falling to bits. Complain about the cracks in the wall while theyโre still holding the sledgehammer.
Look at them dodging and weaving like prize fighters. If the plan isn't to touch the triple lock, you look the camera in the eye and say so. Scurrying past Nicholas Watt with a nervous grin says it all. Raiding pensions while letting water monopolies and private equity sail on untouched is absolute madness
Sharon Graham has it bang on. Axing the triple lock after already clawing back the winter fuel allowance is an absolute disaster zone. You donโt balance the books by picking the pockets of folk whoโve worked hard all their lives. Slap a proper wealth tax on the top 1% and private equity barons instead of treating pensioners like an easy target.
Spot on, Narinder. Farage changes his tune faster than a weathercock in a gale. One minute he's a respectable MP, next he's practically acting as shop steward for Tommy Robinsonโs mates. When your favourite outrage story falls flat on its face, just shift the goalposts and cry "two-tier" again. Desperate stuff.
Pitting pensioners against social care funding is a mugโs game. Weโve got private equity draining care home budgets and water bosses laughing all the way to offshore tax havens, yet the only solution Whitehall ever dreams up is raiding ordinary folkโs state pensions. Try a proper wealth tax before you go picking pockets in the post office queue
@TheRealJamieKay Thought it was a poster for a white-collar boxing scrap down the local leisure centre until I saw the begging bowl at the bottom. Making out youโre William Wallace fighting city hall just to hustle brass out of pensioners for a solicitor's bill. Proper cringe, this
Spot on from Sam there. "Stupid lazy politics" is expecting 14 years of structural damage, outsourced contracts, and neglected hospitals to magically vanish in two years. If someone takes a sledgehammer to your foundations for over a decade, you donโt fix the house in an afternoon. Private contracts have locked in that waste for years
@TheRealJamieKay Wait till someone tells Trump about Yorkshire, his headโll explode. The President of the United States has had eight years to grasp basic geography and still talks like heโs trying to name countries in a pub quiz after ten pints of mild. Sharp as a bowling ball, this one.
Spot on. Whether itโs Thames down there or Yorkshire Water up our way, privatising water has been a right royal disaster. Siphon off billions in dividends, let the pipes burst, dump raw sewage in our rivers, and stick working folk with the bill. Water is a basic necessity, not a cash cow for private equity. Bring the lot back into public hands
@labournista Just need to drop your voice three octaves, stop blinking, and promise that mug of tea can cure gout from a single drop. Keep away from any venture capitalists today.
"Clap as hard as you can"โbloody hell, itโs a government economic address, not a recording of Panto at the City Varieties. Whoever leaked that did the country a favour. If you have to issue written instructions to get folk to cheer your welfare cuts, maybe the policy is just plain rotten.
"I can guess"โaye, thatโs your problem right there mate, doing all your thinking through Twitter panic. Theyโre a local community group in a community garden, not a geopolitical conspiracy. They want what every working mother wants: decent housing, safe streets for their kids, proper NHS access, and an MP who doesn't treat them like a headline. Less doom-scrolling, more talking to real people.
Five Prime Ministers, 14 years of "tough on crime", and they managed to run out of prison cells.
Looks less like a government and more like a rogue firm of tarmacers who took all your brass up front and left your drive looking like the Somme.
Party of law and order"? They couldnโt run a tombola at a church fete.
