Growing up, love felt like something meant for Women to do.. Primary to secondary school.. It felt like it was a Woman’s duty to love while the Man just stays being cute and brilliant academically.. I saw Girls get gifts for their ‘crush’ on his birthday(Not even their BF o).. Just crush

I saw Ladies blush when a guy they like walked past.. They wrote letters, cried, helped men copy notes, spend on you during ‘break-time’.. Men also reciprocated.

In fact, what was more popular was a girl liking a guy first and then the guy reciprocating.. If a guy even likes first, his friends would tease him till the likeness fades away.. That’s how much it was a Woman-thing to LOVE back in the day.

Only to grow up and everything changed..

I started seeing Men yap “Women can’t love Men”.. “Na Man dey love.. Woman own na to stay loyal and respect you”

And i’m like.. Who damaged our Men to this extent ?

Someone with blood running through their vein is incapable of ‘loving’ ke ?

As long as me i’m alive o..

God will punish all of you with that orientation.. Man o, Woman o..

If you’re of the opinion that Woman can’t love Men, God will punish you for me!!

Privilege is such an interesting thing I often find myself thinking about. We do not ask for the life we have, and that is why I'm very mindful of it. You often find it a lot in my writing.

Last week, my cleaner told me on Monday(2 days ago) was her birthday. I asked her what age we are celebrating and she said 33. Epiphany hit me that my agemate is my cleaner. I wore a wry smile as I nodded my head and told her to remind me on Monday so she could get her gift.

I then went to my room to deal with the epiphany of privilege. In another universe, that could easily have been me.
