Grateful to my dear friend Makram El Kadi for sending me « At the Edge of Where God Built » آخر ما عمّر الله, which he co-authored with Ziad Jamaleddine.
More than a book on architecture, it is an invitation to rethink space, identity, faith, memory, and belonging through a deeply rooted yet contemporary Arab lens. Through five powerful spatial concepts (Mataf, Jami, Riwaq, Dar, and Khirbe), the book moves between the sacred and the everyday, the home and the ruin, history and modernity.
I particularly love the title: آخر ما عمّر الله that evocative edge where geography, architecture, culture, and the human story meet.
Congratulations Makram and Ziad on a thoughtful and beautifully conceived work.

The profession is in dire need of imaginative approaches like this L.E.F.T. Intervention to mosque design, which otherwise has been stuck in late Ottoman mode.
