Mike Evans says elite players are separated by their ability to tolerate boredom

“When I was in college, I had a lot of film on Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Moss, Brandon Marshall, all those guys. But I also watched the smaller guys, really. Welker. Dudes that had great footwork and understanding of combinations.”

“I used to just pick apart everything they did, releases, hand fighting down the field, all those things. It was crazy how fast I was able to excel, my game, just watching them.”

“For younger receivers, younger football players in high school and middle school, if you’ve got access to film, you need to watch film, the good and the bad, not just highlights. You need to watch the whole thing. How they practice. How the pros practice.”

“When I got to college, you watch every practice, every play. All of it’s critiqued. I learned really early how to practice hard. I would say their consistent work ethic and their consistent discipline. Because you can get bored easy doing the same thing over and over. If you do anything too many times, it gets boring.”

“But the way they stay consistent and just keep working and stay disciplined, that’s why they’re where they’re at, playing at the highest level.”

Jaden Dugger was asked what he’s learned from Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw since being drafted:

“I’ve learned a lot from them, especially technique. I was here with them the whole summer. I didn’t go home. So I stayed out here all summer with Fred and Dre. I learned what to expect out of certain stuff— certain technique.”

Dugger on learning to play multiple positions at this level:

“Things can get very challenging, but this is something I was asked to do in college, so I’m kind of used to it.”

Dugger on his performance against the Chargers:

“I think I did pretty well. Some stuff to always clean up— a little technique stuff. I think I’m getting better and better week by week.”

Dugger on the most difficult part of the transition from college to the NFL:

“It’s always tough to learn a whole different scheme.”

Dugger on his LB coach KJ Wright:

“He’s a great coach. That’s a coach who believes in you. He builds you up and that’s one of the most important things that you can ask from a coach.”

Dugger on what he’s learned from Fred and Dre:

“The approach to the game. Being relentless. Running to the ball all the time. That’s the 49er way.”

KJ Wright on Jaden Dugger’s versatility:

“It’s really powerful. He can play in space. He can go to MIKE linebacker. He can go down on the EDGE. On third down, I can see him roaming around the guards. You can do so much with that guy and when you look at him, when offenses start to gameplan for us, you don’t know where he’s gonna be. As smart as he is, that’s why I really appreciate about Dugger, I know it isn’t easy as a rookie playing MIKE, WILL, STAR, I’m stressing his brain a little bit. The game will slow down for him. He’s a smart guy with really good recall.”
