Twisha Sharma and Samarth met on a dating app. They dated briefly and, with their families’ consent, got married to each other.
Twisha’s abortion did not happen before marriage; it happened after marriage, with the consent of her spouse.
Dating or having a past does not make someone “slutty.” Whatever their pasts or prior dating histories were, they were aware of each other’s. What was shared in confidence between partners should have remained between them, and Samarth broke that trust by sharing intimate details with his mother.

While it is unclear whether Samarth’s vulgar abuse of Twisha encouraged his mother, Giribala Singh, to escalate the harassment, or whether Giribala herself was the primary force poisoning the marriage from the beginning, the audio recordings and Giribala’s own statements on television make one thing evident: Twisha was mentally harassed.

Giribala did not try to support or stabilise the relationship between her son and daughter-in-law; she actively damaged it.
Samarth failed to stand up for his wife.
Twisha’s family perhaps failed to grasp the gravity of the situation in time and help her leave safely.
As for why an educated and competent woman like Twisha could not rescue herself from the situation, the answer is often far more complex than people would like to admit. Emotional abuse, humiliation, isolation, and hope that things will improve can trap even the strongest people.
