The first of 27 new Komatsu 980E haul trucks destined for our Fort Hills fleet has been safely transported 65 kilometres up Highway 63 on an oversized trailer, with support from @mammoetglobal.

Assembled at the @SMSEquipmentInc maintenance area at our Base Plant site, this supersized truck stands over 26 feet tall, spans 32 feet wide, and weighs more than 1.3 million pounds.

Moving equipment of this scale required extensive planning and close collaboration with regional and provincial partners.

Earlier this year, Suncor introduced the Komatsu PC9000 shovel at Fort Hills, purpose-built to pair with the 400-tonne capacity 980E haul trucks. With its larger bucket, the PC9000 is designed to load each truck in just five passes, resulting in faster cycle times and a lower cost per tonne.

These investments in leading-edge equipment are part of our ongoing commitment to improving safety and productivity at our mines while reducing costs.
