Arcanist

A race capable of using arcane skills, able to cast arcane skills by expending Cellular Activity. This race once flourished, but as the Human race grew in strength, it was gradually marginalized and forgotten.

Beneath the Arcanist race exist multiple sub-branches, and these branches are often determined by the purity and origin of bloodline.

"A race forgotten by the world for their gift, set apart from the rest of the busy world. No one knows why arcanists became arcanists; they once flourished, and now they have fallen."

Pureblooded Arcanist
- A race whose Arcanist bloodline purity reaches above a defined threshold.
- Pureblooded Arcanists are far stronger in their ability to use arcane skills than non-purebloods; bloodline purity and casting ability share a linear relationship.

Mixed Arcanist
- Among the offspring of Humans and Arcanists, individuals whose Arcanist bloodline is relatively thin are called Mixed Arcanists.
- There appears to be a rare atavistic phenomenon, in which Arcanists are born within Human families carrying Arcanist bloodline.

- Arcanists can be infected by a Beyond and transformed into an Infected Species.
- Once the transformation is complete, the subject gains the corresponding infected arcane ability, but most die from physical and mental collapse.

- There exist Arcanists originating from beyond Earth; this type of Arcanist is often classified as Beyond.

Awakened
- Most Awakened have no flesh or nerves. They are merely a fragment of "primordial consciousness" or a rhythm, carried within an object.
- Since the vessels carrying most Awakened are non-biological matter, their bloodline is often tied to their composition and energy source.
- Not all Awakened possess the same senses as Humans. For instance, Ms. Radio has no sight, and Ulrich has no vocal organs.
- For ease of activity, some Awakened will equip an outer shell around the core that carries their primordial consciousness.
- Whether the Awakened possess biological sex remains unclear, but at the cognitive level, most assume a gender.
- Some Arcanists are born from the embodiment of cultural symbols; though this type of Arcanist must undergo a process of consciousness awakening, they are not classified as Awakened.

The ancestors of Humans are said to have been born during the Blank Era. At some point, Humans gradually replaced Arcanists as the dominant race.

Perception of the arcane:

Lacking arcane gifts, Humans are generally unable to interact with concepts from the arcane world. However, there also exist Humans who understand and study the arcane.

- Humans are not skilled in intuitive insight, but are rather more skilled in logical deduction based on observation.
- There is a certain overlap between the arcane and Human science, which has made some arcane techniques the ancient precursors of science.
