Dear Jacinta Zinhle MaNgobese Zuma Let me start with a confession, because I know confession is good for the soul😀

When you started March and March, I sat back in my chair, folded my arms like a true armchair analyst, and said to myself, "Ah, this sister is treating the symptoms and leaving the disease." My reasoning was simple: you can march people to the border from now until Jesus comes back, but as long as the governments of their home countries refuse to reform, those same people will return. Nobody, and I mean nobody, chooses to sit at home and die of hunger out of respect for a border. Hunger has no passport. If my 2 boys were starving, I would also cross a river at midnight and apologise later.

So I watched you from a distance, half critic, half curious.

And then something happened that I did not see coming. You grew. The movement grew. Suddenly it was no longer just "illegal foreigners must leave." You turned and looked the foreign governments themselves in the eye, especially the Zimbabwean government, and said: you are the reason your children are scattered across the earth. You called for the release of Bhekimpilo. You stood behind the peaceful protests of the very people whose presence here started this whole conversation. Do you understand how rare that is?

What I'm going to say next is from a man who has studied history and scripture. You have refused extremism. People tried to drag you there. They always do. Every movement has its whisperers standing at the leader's ear saying "burn it down, go further, be harder." You said no.

History has seen this before. When Martin Luther broke from the Catholic Church and declared "The just shall live by faith, not by praying the rosary," that sentence birthed the largest Protestant movement the world has ever seen. But there were men around him who wanted to burn churches and kill priests. Luther refused. And because he refused, the Reformation became something bigger than Luther himself, bigger than his anger, bigger than his generation. They wanted to finish the sentences for him. Luther said, not in my name.

Here is the pattern I have noticed in five hundred years of history: every leader who refuses to be pulled into extremism ends up building a movement bigger than themselves. The extremists build fires. The restrained ones build legacies. When people wanted to use your name to do evil things to other humans, you put your foot down and said, not in my name. Right now the same people are asking why you are concentrating your efforts on supporting the fellow marginalised Zimbabweans, but that's exactly the point. Your vision is bigger than getting undocumented foreigners out of the country, and sadly many cannot see it. By refusing to let the masses put words in your mouth, by refusing to be used as a tool by political parties, you have kept this movement clean, and that is exactly why I personally believe this movement will out-live you.

And since I am a pastor, allow me to share with you one small sermon!

God Himself has never been a fan of fanaticism. When the disciples James and John wanted to call fire down from heaven on a village that rejected Jesus, He turned and rebuked them, not the village (Luke 9:54–55). When Peter pulled out a sword to defend the Lord, Jesus told him to put it away, because those who live by the sword die by it (Matthew 26:52). And the prophet Zechariah reminds us it is "not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord" (Zechariah 4:6). Scripture is full of people who wanted God to be more extreme than He was willing to be. He disappointed all of them, thank God.

So Jacinta, keep walking that middle road. It is a bit lonely, it is slower, and the loudest voices will call you weak for it. But movements are born by visionaries, not by temporary emotions.
